Growing up as an identical twin afforded Brenda a unique opportunity to appreciate the importance of “Teamwork” early in life. She furthered these skills in high school and college as she held various leadership positions (Honor Society President, etc.). A graduate school program at Tufts University in Nutrition Education and Counselling gave Brenda yet another invaluable perspective which culminated in Brenda’s philosophy of working WITH clients so as to best accomplish their mutual goals. Brenda has literally moved across the country from Massachusetts to Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and ultimately to Danville, California in 1985.
She has maintained an active involvement in her community, including church, schools, athletic offerings, arts, etc. She loves the many facets of living in the Bay area, and delights in sharing the opportunities this area offers.
Professionally, Brenda was one of the founders of The Blackhawk Real Estate Company, which was acquired in 2009 by J. Rockcliff Realtors. Brenda has been awarded the prestigious Five Star Professional Award. She is an active member of Marketing Masters, a select networking group of twenty real estate professionals representing the area’s major real estate offices, and of the Top Agent Network (TAN). Barry provides to his clients an extensive experience base and set of skills which are critical to success in today’s complex real estate transactions. These include: sound judgment; outstanding communicator; good listener; savvy negotiator; high energy; persistence; a service orientation; an in-depth knowledge of the real estate market and the technology tools required for success in that market; pays attention to the details.
Barry knew he was “home” in 1985 when he discovered San Francisco and the communities of the San Ramon Valley. He loves its beauty, its architecture, its weather, its activities, and its ambience. Mostly, he loves its people, and he feels blessed by God to be able to live here. As a bonus, he is able to work closely with the best real estate agent in the East Bay. That would be Brenda Zwahlen, a broker with J. Rockclif Realtors (also his wife). Perhaps he is a bit biased.
Barry was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in Mathematics. He was a Data Processing Officer in the United States Air Force and following his separation from the military, he received his MBA from The Harvard Business School.
Barry held financial management positions with Ford Motor Company and Navistar prior to entering the executive search profession in 1981 with KPMG Peat Marwick in their Chicago office, where he developed a practice focusing on the recruitment of Technology executives. He relocated his executive search practice to San Francisco in 1985.
From 2000 through 2005, Barry served on the Board of Directors of Brightstar Information Technology Group, a publicly traded Systems Integration Company. Barry entered the Real Estate profession in 2002 and is one of the mostly highly respected Realtors in the East Bay. He was elected by his peers to be the 2010 President of The Contra Costa Association of Realtors (4000) Realtor members), and in 2013 was named the Realtor of the Year by the Contra Costa Association of Realtors. Barry is actively involved in the life of his community and church. He is an ordained Elder in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC).
